Vion wins Innovation Award with "AI for a Healthy Curly Tail"
This award highlights Vion’s commitment to innovation, animal welfare and cooperation throughout the supply chain. It also underlines the company’s ambition to build a future-proof livestock sector in which animals remain healthy and keep their tails. Within this project, a monitoring system is being developed to help pig farmers identify the risk of tail biting at an early stage. By linking data from farms and slaughterhouses, a unique dataset is created that, using artificial intelligence (AI) and practical expertise, is translated into actionable insights. This enables timely intervention.
We would like to thank everyone who voted, the Dutch Pork & Poultry Expo and our colleagues for making this success possible. We also extend our thanks to our project partners – Connecting Agri & Food, Utrecht University, VetVise and Vision Partners – and to the participating pig farmers for their valuable contribution. ‘AI for a Healthy Curly Tail’ is co-financed by the European Union.
Vion was present at the Dutch Pork & Poultry Expo on 15 and 16 October with a renewed exhibition stand, where the company was engaged in discussions on market developments and current topics in the sector. Employees provided information on chain sustainability and CO₂ footprint calculation, on innovations aimed at animal welfare and animal health, and on Vion’s chain approach, which creates value through transparency and cooperation.
