ABPA launches International Road Show to preserve market access based on WHO guidelines
The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) will launch, on August 8, in Manila, Philippines, the first edition of the International Road Show “No borders for food: Partnerships for food security” , an initiative aimed at promoting agricultural trade based on clear, predictable health rules aligned with the principles of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
The action takes place within the scope of the sectoral project maintained by ABPA in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), and aims to strengthen the adoption of international technical criteria, as a tool to expand access to markets and contribute to maintaining the flow of trade and global food security.
The Road Show launch comes at a momentous occasion, as Brazil firmly overcomes the first outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in commercial poultry. "The rapid response from the production sector and health authorities demonstrated the effectiveness of our prevention model. Now, it's time to also address the international landscape, ensuring that markets understand and recognize our advances and the technical foundations adopted globally. It's also important to emphasize the need for a change in the approach to Avian Influenza concepts, as well as reaffirm the impossibility of transmission through the product, as already recognized by all international health organizations," emphasizes ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
The opening seminar will be held during the WOFEX trade show in Manila, with the theme: "Philippines – Brazil: A Successful Partnership. WOAH-based decisions for food security ." The event will be attended by the Brazilian Ambassador to the Philippines, Gilberto Fonseca Guimarães de Moura, Agricultural Attaché Virginia Carpi, officials from the local Department of Agriculture, and representatives of animal protein importers and processors.
In addition to the Philippines, events are planned for other strategic markets for the Brazilian export sector, such as China, the European Union, South Africa, Mexico, Chile, Malaysia, Peru, Canada, and Saudi Arabia. "These markets account for over US$5 billion in imports of Brazilian products. Therefore, we want to foster technical dialogue with authorities and importers, strengthening local communities that advocate for fair and evidence-based trade, always in accordance with WHO standards," emphasizes Santin.
In addition to members of ABPA and the sector, Brazilian government authorities and international leaders in the animal health sector are expected to participate in the Road Show.
