ABPA launches new phase of PSA prevention campaign
Keeping the sector's attention on sanitary protection, the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) launched today a new phase of the "ASF-Free Brazil" campaign, an initiative aimed at maintaining care to protect the country's pig industry against the risk of African Swine Fever being introduced into the country.
The campaign features videos for digital distribution and highlights basic safety concerns for those traveling abroad and for pig producers.
Precautions include not bringing any type of pork product in your luggage after visiting other countries—which is prohibited by Brazilian authorities—; paying attention to the feed and water on farms, prohibiting visitors, and thoroughly sanitizing clothes and shoes after travel. Vehicles accessing the farms must also undergo decontamination.
According to ABPA President Ricardo Santin, the campaign is part of a series of measures adopted by the sector to maintain its health protection against ASF, one of the most severe diseases affecting global swine production.
"There are still active cases of ASF in several countries around the world. The continental Americas have no recorded outbreaks, and we are constantly striving to achieve this goal. The campaign we will be carrying out is part of these efforts, to preserve our production of this disease, which has not been recorded in our country for four decades", says ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
