ASF hits the largest Romanian pig farm

The largest pig farm in Romania was hit again in an ASF outbreak. Veterinary watchdog in Romania -DSVSA- confirmed the presence of the virus in the farm owned by Tebu Consult in Gropeni, Braila county.
16,000 pigs are going to be culled to stop the virus from spreading, according to local authorities. "There is a problem at a farm in Gropeni. We have confirmation of the virus. 16,000 pigs are going to be culled at this farm", said Gicu Dragan, head of DSVSA Braila, according to Industria Carnii magazine. Last year, the company's farms located in the same county were affected by the disease and 200,000 pigs were culled. The compensation paid for the losses was €36.5 million.

Currently, Romania has the largest number of ASF outbreaks reported in Europe, more than 1000. Most of the cases have been confirmed in the backyard farms in the southern part of the country.
