ASF outbreak in Serbia stirs panic in a neighbouring country

Iohanisfeld ?i Otelec, two villages from the Romanian county of Timis, are monitored for ASF outbreaks by local authorities after an outbreak was confirmed across the border, in the Serbian village of Srpski Italbe, 9.6 kilometres far.
So far, none of the pigs in backyard farms and industrial-scale farms in Timis hasn't presented any sign of disease, according to a report from the authorities. Measures including the hunt of wild boars in the area and disinfection for the vehicles crossing the border have been adopted to stop the virus from spreading. Timis is located in the South-Western part of Romania and holds several large pig farms owned by Smithfield and other local companies.
Consumers have been advised not to buy pig meat without proper sanitary certification. Romania has been affected by the disease and has a large rate of ASF outbreaks reported this summer but most of the cases are concentrated in the country's South-East area.
