The authorities announced that this regulation will be applied to all the national food companies' operators that import products from Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Poland or Romania.

"In view of the development of the disease situation in Europe, it is necessary to protect domestic pigs and the high-standard market for consumers from the possible introduction of the disease. That's why we have decided to condition the entry of potentially dangerous food from risky countries by mandatory ASF testing. The fight against the disease costs us a lot of money and there are a number of restrictive measures, so we do not want to risk another introduction of the disease into our territory," Minister of Agriculture Miroslav Toman stated.

The JSB is currently randomly examining consignments of pigs and wild feathered pigs from ASF-compliant pigs for the presence of their virus. Over 100 samples were collected this year. In either case, the presence of ASF was not detected. The new veterinary measures of the JSB will also intensify monitoring intensively and will investigate pork meat and products from countries where the presence of ASF has not officially been confirmed.
