Danish Crown closes slaughterhouse in Ringsted

Danish Crown decided to halt operations for a week in its slaughterhouse in Ringsted due to a large number of COVID-19 infections among workers. " It is violent to be in a situation where almost 150 employees are infected and many of them are ill. It hurts all of us at Danish Crown," said Group CEO Jais Valeur. The plant has around 600 workers and more tests are to be conducted.
At the same time, all employees at the slaughterhouse must now consider themselves close contacts to the infected. This means that they must follow the authorities' instructions regarding self-isolation and testing, informed the Danish meat processor. "We have always known that a shutdown could be necessary. The development in the infection numbers over the past week does not indicate an explosion in the spread of infection, but conversely, the intensive test program has not succeeded in containing the infection as hoped. That is why we are now taking the consequence and closing down the slaughterhouse," added Jais Valeur, Group CEO of Danish Crown.

The actual closure of the slaughterhouse is taking place during Monday, August 10. There will be no slaughter on Monday, but the cold rooms are currently full, and therefore a group of employees will come to work to empty the slaughterhouse of goods.
