FAO supports the global antibiotic resistance center in Denmark

UN's Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) announced its support for the Danish initiative to create a global antibiotic resistance center in the country, after a meeting between the Director-General of the organization José Graziano da Silva and the Danish Minister for Food and Environment Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.
The Danish Ministry of the Environment and Food and the FAO have released a publication describing the Danish efforts and experiences with the reduction of the use of antibiotics in pig production.
"We are internationally recognized for our work on antibiotic resistance. I am pleased that the FAO fully supports the forthcoming center in Denmark and highlights us as a good example. This is not least due to the fact that Danish agriculture has reached a very long way in terms of reducing the consumption of antibiotics. The new center will help to ensure that we remain a leader in the area", said minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.
Denmark announced in November that it has decided to support the establishment of the future center and that it is now in dialogue with other countries, organizations and donors, who share the long-term perspective, on cooperation and co-financing for the center.
