Vietnamese pangasius found a new big market inside EU

2018 had a promising start for Vietnam's pangasius exporters who have found a new lucrative market inside EU, Poland. Even if they have to face a strong competition from other whitefish exporters in this market, the Vietnamese companies have registered good sales in the first two months of 2018.
Poland's demand for Vietnamese pangasius has increased by 17 times in January and February over the same period of 2017. Considering that, in the first quarter of 2017, Vietnamese whitefish exports to Poland have reached a value of $3 million, the total value for the first two months of 2018 must be close to $34 million.
Last year, the value of Vietnamese whitefish exports to Poland was at about $ 13 million. Poland's market is a new option for many Pangasius exporters of Vietnam in early 2018. According to ITC statistics, in 2017, the average import price of pangasius into this country fluctuated from US$1.55 to US$1.62 per kg. While pangasius exports to the EU faced difficulties, a rise in the export value to some new potential markets such as Poland has shown the efforts of pangasius exporters of Vietnam, informs Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers. In 2017, frozen pangasius fillets had a market share of 3.82% in Poland's whitefish imports.
