ABPA and Meat Traders Association of Singapore sign agreement to expand cooperation in animal protein trade
The agreement provides for the exchange of information and experiences, cooperation on technical and regulatory issues, and support for trade promotion initiatives involving chicken, pork, and processed products. The entities will also work together to expand supply chains, improve product quality, and collaborate with regulatory authorities, such as the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), to facilitate trade and improve food safety.
Under the agreement, the entities commit to maintaining ongoing dialogue and exchanging information regularly to identify new opportunities for collaboration between the productive sectors of both countries. The memorandum will be initially valid for 12 months, with automatic renewal, and will serve as a basis for developing long-term joint projects and initiatives.
"This partnership represents a step forward in relations between Brazil and Singapore in the field of food security and health cooperation. It reinforces Brazil's role as a reliable partner in the global supply of animal protein and opens new avenues for strengthening trade increasingly based on science, predictability, and mutual trust", emphasizes Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
Singapore is currently the ninth-largest destination for Brazilian chicken exports. A total of 101,400 tons were shipped between January and August, generating US$185 million in revenue. The market is also the sixth-largest importer of Brazilian pork, with 54,700 tons imported in the first eight months of this year, generating US$155.3 million in revenue.
The signing took place jointly during a meeting with the president of the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (ABIEC), Roberto Perosa – who signed an equivalent memorandum for the beef sector.
The event took place as part of ABPA's program of activities at Anuga 2025 – one of the world's largest food and beverage fairs – which marks the first institutional initiative since the European market reopened to Brazilian chicken. With a booth measuring over 400 square meters, the initiative brings together 26 agribusinesses from the poultry, pork, and egg sectors. In addition to the presence of major cooperatives and companies, the Brazilian space hosts promotional activities for the Brazilian Chicken, Brazilian Pork, Brazilian Egg, Brazilian Breeders, and Brazilian Duck brands, with business rounds, meetings with global stakeholders, and institutional networking activities.
During the event, ABPA has been promoting tastings led by chef Marcelo Bortolon, presenting special dishes using Brazilian proteins, highlighting attributes such as flavor, quality and sustainability.
