Chicken meat shipments reestablish levels and reach 480 thousand tons in September
Brazilian chicken exports (including all products, both fresh and processed) totaled 482,300 tons in September, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). This is the best monthly result recorded in the last 11 months, surpassed only by the volume shipped in September 2024, which totaled 485,000 tons—a decrease of only 0.6% compared to the same period last year.
Revenue from chicken meat exports reached US$857.9 million in September, a balance 10.1% lower than the same period last year, with US$953.8 million.
In the year (January to September), 3.876 million tons were shipped, a volume 1% lower than that exported in the first nine months of the previous year, with 3,917 thousand tons. Cumulative revenue in the period reached US$7.166 billion, a figure 1.5% lower compared to 2024, with US$7.273 billion.
For the first time, South Africa was the main monthly destination for the sector's exports, with 38.7 thousand tons exported in September – a figure 35.9% higher than in the same period last year. The ranking of the main destinations for the month is completed by the United Arab Emirates, with 37.2 thousand tons (-10.2%), Mexico, with 37.1 thousand tons (+55.5%), Japan, with 36.4 thousand tons (-0.2%), Saudi Arabia, with 35.7 thousand tons (+19.2%), the Philippines, with 32.3 thousand tons (+103.2%), South Korea, with 25.7 thousand tons (+229.8%), Chile, with 18 thousand tons (+81.3%), Iraq, with 13.5 thousand tons (+7.9%) and Hong Kong, with 12.5 thousand tons (+138.6%).
"The small difference between volumes shipped to the main export destinations in September demonstrates widespread demand for Brazilian products, reflecting partially suppressed demand during the period in which certain markets suspended imports due to the now-resolved outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Rio Grande do Sul. Expectations are high that performance will continue at similar levels next month, now that sales to the European Union have resumed", assesses ABPA President Ricardo Santin.
The main Brazilian exporting state, Paraná, shipped 182.3 thousand tons in September (-6.9%), followed by Santa Catarina, with 116.7 thousand tons (+10.5%), Rio Grande do Sul, with 65.2 thousand tons (+3.2%), São Paulo, with 31.1 thousand tons (+10.7%) and Goiás, with 21.6 thousand tons (+10.8%).
