INTERPORC welcomes the new agreements between Spain and China that strengthen pork exports

This was stated by its Director General, Alberto Herranz, at the Chinese Embassy during his participation in the presentation of the CIIE (China International Import Expo 2026).

The protocols, signed during Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's visit to China, open new commercial opportunities for the Spanish pork sector in its main export market. The first focuses on the export of processed pork products, while the second modifies the existing protocol for pork exports to China to include cooked products.

Herranz emphasized that “opening this market to new categories consolidates our position as a reliable, predictable partner committed to the development of the Chinese market.” In this regard, he reiterated that in the Spanish pork sector, “we are committed to long-term relationships, not one-off opportunities; we work with transparency, scientific rigor, and regulatory compliance; and we understand trade as cooperation between nations.”

Principles that underpin the solid commercial track record that precedes these agreements and that has led to "Spain and China not only being commercial partners, but strategic partners with a shared vision for the future."

China is the main destination by volume for Spanish pork products, with a total of 503,871 tons (18.4% of total exports) worth close to 1 billion euros in 2025, making it a strategic market.

Excellent institutional relations

During the meeting held at the embassy, key issues were also addressed, such as strengthening bilateral cooperation, the excellent state of institutional relations between the two governments, and the development of new joint projects. In this context, the commitment between both parties was emphasized, a result of the institutional support provided during the various high-level official visits of both His Majesty King Felipe VI and the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, during which strategic agreements were reached for the white pig sector in Spain.

Furthermore, INTERPORC participated in the 'China (Sichuan) – Spain' trade and economic promotion event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Madrid, with the presence of Sichuan government officials, including Governor Shi Xiaolin. The meeting brought together representatives from key economic sectors with the aim of boosting cooperation between Spain and this region, one of the most dynamic and important in the country.
