VASEP: Pangasius exports increased by 8.2%

VASEP explains that despite a decline in shipments to the EU by 23.5% year-over-year, pangasius exports to other markets such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Saudi Arabia have witnessed a positive evolution.

Vietnam’s pangasius exports to these potential markets "showed good signs over the same period last year with growth of 59.3%; 25,7%; 8.9% and 6%, respectively." VASEP expects a year-over-year increase from 8% to 35% for the export value to these markets in the second semester of 2017.

Pangasius exports to the US increased by 3.3% in the first 7 months of this year compared to the similar period from 2016, reaching 220.8 million dollars. Shipments destined for the US market accounted for 22% of Vietnam's total pangasius exports. "In QII/2017, exports to the market recorded the remarkable increase from 11% to 52% over the same period in 2016, which pushed the market to the leading position," according to VASEP.

Pangasius exports to China - Hong Kong grew by 46.2% between January-July 2017 compared to the similar period from the previous year, reaching 206.1 million dollars.
